Hello everyone,
The trip started out a bit rocky. It seems that things are finally slowing down. First we almost missed our connecting flight in Korea, & thankfully they held the plane while we cleared customs. Then mid-way through the flight I got very sick, which sadly carried on late into the night last night. Not sure what the cause was, but glad that is over with.
Today we got up pretty early & grabbed some breakfast. Then headed for the bank to get some Thai baht :) Walked around town a bit to get everyone familiar with the city, then grabbed lunch in a little restaurant off the side of the road. My mom got a yummy beef salad w/ sticky rice, & I had an awesome bowl of Tom Yum. Good food to start off a great trip.
After a rest my Mom, Dale, Diane, & I decided to go up to Doi Suthtep (a big temple up on the mountain) to get blessed & see the city from above. It was a perfect day, the sun was so pretty shinning down on all the gold of the temple, & the view of the city was flawless. We all walked the 300+ steps to the top & enjoyed the sunshine & the great views.
The weather has been a real dream at 88 degrees during the day & a comfortable 65 degrees at night. My mom is very happy she took out a travelers insurance policy after dodging the crazy traffic & navigating the not so people friendly sidewalks ;)
We have found a new love of Lays Brand Peking Duck w/ Sauce potato chips, & spicy squid flavored potato chips. Yummy! Need to get these bad boys imported, sooooo good!
We finished off the day with Pad thai & my favorite thai dessert called Roti. A sinful little pastry filled with bananas, grilled with butter, then finished of with a thick coating of sweetened condensed milk & sugar. Not counting calories on this vacation :) Of course, I was healthy too & had some fresh pineapple as well.
Well now time to relax after a long first day. Talk to you all again real soon.
